These hand-woven mengkuang (South-East Asian screw pines: family Pandanaceae) bags are lovingly hand-woven by a women's village cooperative in Terengganu, east of Peninsular Malaysia. Mengkuang leaves are harvested, dried, dyed, woven into mats first and then woven into hats. Earth Heir advocates the use of materials and practices which minimise environmental impact. What makes this bag special is the the weave is double in comparison with the other mengkuang bags with only single weave.
In pursuit of our social and ecological goals, 10% of our revenue is reinvested into our impact triangle; 5% is dedicated to training and developing our artisans whilst the remaining 5% is devoted equally to reforestation, and animal conservation globally (for 2017, we will be donating 2.5% of all sales towards the conservation of endangered tigers in Malaysia).
